Solway runs hands-on Claude training for Calgary teams that already pay for Claude, or are about to, and want their people using it inside real work instead of one-off chats. Sessions run half a day or a full day, on-site in Calgary or live-virtual, for up to 20 people. Every session ends with at least one real workflow rebuilt in Claude and saved as a reusable skill, not a slide deck nobody opens again. Training is eligible for Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG) funding.

The problem this solves

Most Calgary teams that buy Claude get the same result: a handful of people use it well, most people use it like a search box, and nobody built anything that outlasts the chat window it was written in. The gap usually isn't awareness of the tool. It's that nobody showed the team how to load their own context into it, so every conversation starts from zero.

This training closes that gap by working on your team's actual workflows during the session, not generic examples. You leave with the setup already built: projects loaded with your files and instructions, skills that encode a task you do every week, and a team that understands why the AI got smarter the moment you gave it context instead of a longer prompt.

Who this is for

Business teams and leaders at Calgary and Alberta organizations already using or evaluating Claude, including Claude Team or Claude Enterprise. No coding background required. We've delivered this training to nonprofit program teams, business school faculty, and operations and finance teams, and we tailor the session to whichever group is in the room.

How we teach it

Our training is workflow-first. We don't spend the day touring features. We take one workflow your team actually does, build it live in Claude in front of the room, and use it to teach the underlying skills: projects, skills, connectors, and model selection.

The teaching thesis is simple: the frontier models are smart enough for most business work already. What holds teams back isn't a lack of clever prompts. It's a lack of context. A well-set-up project with the right files and instructions will outperform a brilliant one-off prompt every time, and it keeps working the next day.

We also teach Solway's Goldilocks Zone Model for deciding how much of a workflow to hand to AI. The two failure modes we see most often are leaving everything manual because "AI isn't reliable enough," and automating a workflow end to end with no human checkpoint. Both cost more than the middle path: AI handles the heavy lifting, a person reviews before anything goes out, and the whole thing runs faster and more reliably than either extreme.

Curriculum

Module A: Foundations and safe use How Claude actually works, common misconceptions (it isn't learning as you chat with it, and it can't see anything outside what you give it or grant it access to), data handling, and when to trust an output versus verify it yourself.

Module B: The Claude platform Chats, projects, project instructions, skills, memory, model and effort selection, and connectors. This is the hands-on core of the day: participants set up their own project during the session.

Module C: Build a real workflow We take one workflow from your team, build it end to end in Claude, and save it as a skill your team keeps using after we leave. This is the module clients remember.

Module D: Adoption and governance Permissions and what Claude can and can't access, human review checkpoints, disclosure practices, and a rollout plan for the rest of your team. For clients with an AI policy, we can load it into the Claude environment as a skill, so staff can ask Claude directly what's allowed.

Delivered work

We've run Claude foundations training for an Alberta environmental foundation's full staff team as part of a broader AI policy engagement, including preloading their AI policy as a skill so staff could ask Claude directly what was allowed. We've also run a Claude workflow series for faculty at a Calgary business school, rebuilding a real assignment and grading rubric live in Claude from start to finish.

Funding: this training may qualify for CAPG

The Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG) reimburses part of what you spend on third-party training, including AI training under the program's "Digital and technological" skills category. Solway, as an independent third-party trainer, qualifies as an eligible provider.

• For existing employees: the grant covers 50% of training costs, up to $5,000 per employee per fiscal year

• For newly hired, previously unemployed Albertans: the grant covers up to 75%, up to $10,000 per employee per fiscal year

• Employers can claim up to $100,000 per fiscal year in total

What that looks like in practice, using the existing-employee rate: a team of 5 could have up to $25,000 in eligible training costs reimbursed in a year (5 x the $5,000 cap). A team of 10 could see up to $50,000 reimbursed. At 20 employees, the per-person caps add up to exactly the $100,000 annual employer limit, so that's the largest single-year claim any Calgary employer can make under the program regardless of team size.

Training needs to be delivered by a qualified instructor rather than self-study, which is exactly how we run these sessions. A recent update to the program also removed the old minimum-hours and certification requirements, so a half-day or full-day workshop like this one qualifies on its own, without needing to be bundled into a longer certification course. FAQ

Is our data safe if we use Claude for company work? Claude for business (Claude Team or Claude Enterprise) is built to the same compliance standards as other enterprise SaaS your company already trusts, including SOC 2 Type 2. The real risk is staff using personal, free-tier accounts for work data, since free consumer tools can use your inputs to improve their own models. Part of this training is making that distinction clear to your team.

Do we need Claude Team, or can people use personal accounts? For any work involving your company's information, we recommend a paid business account (Claude Team or Claude Enterprise), not a personal subscription. Business accounts don't train on your data and give your organization actual control over permissions and data handling. We'll help you think through which tier fits your team's size and workflows.

How is Claude different from ChatGPT or Copilot, and how do we choose? Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot are all frontier-capable tools, and the right choice usually comes down to your existing stack and workflows more than raw capability. Teams on Google Workspace, or teams that want the strongest experience for long documents and structured writing work, often lean toward Claude. Solway trains on all three, and if you're not sure which platform fits, our AI training hub page walks through how to decide.

Can Claude see files or data it shouldn't? No. When you connect Claude to Google Drive, email, or another tool, it only sees what your own account already has permission to see. It can't access a locked folder or a file you don't have rights to, and it inherits your existing permission structure rather than creating a new one.

Which Claude model should our team actually be using? This is one of the most common questions we get, because the model picker (Haiku, Sonnet, Opus, and others) is confusing if nobody explains it. We teach a simple rule of thumb: use a lighter, faster model for quick or low-stakes tasks, and reserve the most capable model and highest effort setting for work that actually needs deep analysis. Getting this right also controls how quickly your team uses up its usage limits.

Does anyone on our team need to know how to code? No. Everything in this training happens in plain English. The skill we're teaching is being specific about what you want and giving Claude the context it needs, not writing anything that looks like code.

Is this training eligible for the CAPG grant? Yes, in most cases. AI training delivered by a qualified third-party instructor, like Solway, falls under CAPG's "Digital and technological" skills category. Does a half-day workshop meet CAPG's minimum training requirement? Yes. CAPG does not set a minimum number of training hours. An earlier version of the program required a longer commitment and formal certification, but that requirement has been removed, so a half-day or full-day Claude workshop qualifies on its own.

What happens after the training day? You keep everything we built together: the project, the skill, and the written workflow reference. We also include a block of post-training office hours so your team has somewhere to bring questions once they're using Claude on their own, instead of the momentum dying the week after the session.
